The Thermo ESCALAB 250xi instrument is a UHV instrument containing state-of-the art electron spectroscopy techniques as well a preparation chamber for in-situ sample heating, cooling and exposure to either gases or deposition sources.

As for the K-alpha instrument, available techniques are: XPS, AR-XPS, Sputter Depth Profile, Chemical Mapping (2 μm resolution), with turn-key charge neutralization and a monochromatized Al-Kα x-ray source. Additionally, UPS, REELS and LEIS are available.
