HIM Applications

Imaging Insulating Biological Samples

Material: Rat kidney; Application: Medicine; Sample courtesy of H. Szeto, MD, Weill-Cornell Medical Center, NYC. Published in JASN November 23, 2016

The absence of metallic coating on biological samples enables imaging unprecedented details of the restoration of  damaged rat kidney podocytes after novel medical treatment. (Scale=500nm)

Analytical Tool/ Ion Scattering Spectroscopy

In our instrument, the energy of scattered He ions can be detected using a time of flight detector. This newly developed method enables chemical analysis and channeling studies in the HIM. Consequently, both elemental analysis and crystal structure orientation and order can be probed.
